Fire Island Movie Plot, Fire Island Movie Ending Explained

Fire Island plot summary

This quirky take on Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice focuses on a group of Asian American friends on a week-long vacation on Fire Island, where their main goal is hooking up with other guys rather than finding true love.

But when the two men in the group, Noah and Howie, encounter Will and Charlie, a couple of boys who are interested in them, there's an opportunity for something more meaningful than casual love.

The chances of them finding true love with these guys are slim because Noah suddenly dislikes Will and Howie feels he doesn't deserve Charlie. However, as the film progresses, their relationship deepens and it seems possible that love will prevail over the pride and prejudices that threaten to spoil everything.

Or will they be forced to return home with nothing but a few happy memories to look back on?

When they get to Fire Island, Noah promises to help Howie hook up with someone on vacation. He even promises not to have love until Howie has love with someone first.

Howie is skeptical of his chances and it's clear that his self-esteem is low. But when they go on a hike with the rest of their group, they meet Charlie and Will, two rich guys who stay in a fancy house on another part of the island.

Howie and Charlie immediately hit it off, but Howie warns the rest of the group to be careful due to the social differences between him and his newfound friend.

Despite her suspicions, her friendship with Charlie begins to deepen when she and the children are invited to a party at Charlie's house. But while he gets to know Charlie a little better at the event, the other guys have trouble interacting with the other men at the party because of their differences.

Things get even more complicated when Noah overhears Will saying something negative about Howie. This later causes him to act hostile towards the impetuous and arrogant Will when he begins to spend time with arrogance.

Is the road to true love smooth?

Alas, no, as Rhys does, Charlie's ex-boyfriend arrives on the island, leaving Howie feeling sad and neglected. She then begins to question her chances of having a relationship with Charlie.

Since Noah doesn't love Will anyway, the possibility of a relationship between them is also unlikely. This doesn't matter to Noah because he starts talking to a guy named Dex and they start getting intimate with each other.

It seems Dex can't be trusted, and Will sends Noah a letter warning him against the man masquerading as a nice guy. This is the catalyst for a change in Noah and Will's relationship, and despite their differences and misunderstandings, they begin to form a friendship.

  Are Howie and Charlie dating?

Howie is already doubting his chances of finding love with Charlie, and when Rhys shows up, he thinks he won't have a chance with the man he likes.

Howie, disheartened by Rhys' sudden reappearance in Charlie's life, decides to cut the trip short and go home.

However, Charlie really likes Howie and seems to want a relationship with him.

Noah informs Charlie that Howie is leaving the island on the ferry and encourages him to make a big romantic gesture, something that Howie has always wanted someone to do for him.

Charlie takes Noah's advice and he steals a boat to capture Howie. When they're finally on land, Charlie gives Howie exactly what he's looking for, and the two share a kiss.

At this point, it becomes clear that the two are in love, and that they are, in all probability, in love with each other.

Will Noah and Will end up together?

Unlike Howie and Charlie, Noah and Will don't touch anything when they first meet. They don't make it the second, third, or even fourth time, so the chances of them getting back together seem pretty slim.

However, their relationship is based on that between Elizabeth and Darcy in Jane Austen's classic novel, so fans of the book (or other movies based on it) will already have an idea of how their story will conclude.

Over the course of the film, the two run into each other several times and eventually begin to realize that they are not so different. Both love to read for beginners, and also have a need to protect their friends when they think they might be in trouble.

Since they both live in different parts of the US, we can't say for sure if the two are together; Noah in New York and Will in LA.

But before the film closes, the two men share a dance and a passionate kiss, so the foundations of true love are definitely there. Because their story is similar to that depicted in Jane Austen's fiction, it is safe to assume that they find a way to be together, even though we don't see a proper conclusion to their love story.
